Tips To Shut Down Windows 8. Many people  want to know how to shut down Windows 8. You would think that is a simple task, as in previous versions of Windows we had always had the start menu with a shut down, restart option. Now the Windows 8 shutdown problem is causing stress for the new users of this operating system.

There are two reasons for the problems with shutting down windows 8.

1. One is that people just cannot find out how to shut down the Windows 8 computer because it is not too obvious.
2. The other problem is that when they do find out how to shut down, they notice that it takes 4 steps to do so.

1. Firstly we will need to access the Charm bar which is a fancy name for a menu. You can do this by moving your mouse to the lower right corner of the screen. The menu will then slide out. See the screen shot below.

2. When the Charm bar appears click on the Settings icon. See the arrow pointing to the settings icon below.

3. When the settings appear, click on the Power icon. See the screenshot below.

4. Now you will be able to choose to either Sleep, Shut Down, Update, or Restart.

So that is how to shut down Windows 8. In this world of gadgets and technology, this is definitely not faster or easier to do than the previous versions of Windows.

Create a Windows 8 Shut Down Shortcut

Believe it or not this process is the same for older versions of Windows also but Windows XP uses – instead of / in the shutdown syntax. Therefore we have a older tutorial aboutc reating a shut down shortcut if you are interested which will apply to Windows XP but can be used for other Windows versions if you change the -(dash) to /(slash).

Here are the instructions for Windows 8, even though earlier instructions can apply.

1. Right click on the Windows 8 desktop. A menu will appear.
2. Choose New from the menu. Then choose Shortcut.
3. A create shortcut dialog box will appear. Where it says location enter this text  shutdown /s /t 0This means that the computer will shut down (s) in time (t) which is zero seconds (0)You can change the zero to any number of seconds. EG. shutdown /s /t 5
4. Press next.
5. Enter a name for your shortcut and click finish. Your shortcut will be on your desktop.

The shortcut will be ugly because it has no icon assigned to it.

• Simply go to the icon on the desktop, right click on it and choose properties.
•  Go to the shortcut tab and choose change icon. A warning will appear.
• Select the icon from the available list and then press ok.

Quick Computer Tip: Right click on the shortcut on the desktop and select Pin to Start. The shutdown icon will now appear on your Start screen in Windows 8. To Pin this shutdown shortcut to the taskbar simply right click on the icon that is now on your start screen and choose pin to taskbar from the menu.
